Background: a design from a Hopi jar, circa 1830s. Pottery was a very important
part of life to the Hopi, which hailed from Arizona and were considered
a sub tribe of the Pueblo Indians. The pottery was made from wet clay,
then buried in the sand until it dried. Each piece told a story.
