ARTISANS: EMBROIDERER

Media: watercolor, colored pencils, acrylic & ink on Bristol
Size: 11x14"

Background: a tanghka (traditional Buddhist religious painting with
embroidery) depicting an unknown deity, circa 1400, from the Lower Sange
Monastery in Tibet. The monastery was partially destroyed during an attack
by the Red Guard in 1972. The monks and Lamas that survived the attack went
into hiding until 1988, taking with them as much of the artwork and relics as
they could save. The monastery is currently undergoing reconstruction.
