COMMISSIONS INFO

Commission offers are always welcome.

Before you contact me about a project, please note that I only accept serious work offers. That means I do not accept exposure or speculation work offers, no exceptions. A non-refundable downpayment of 50% of total commission fee is required up front with most projects.

I only accept certain projects based on personal interest, and depending on how busy my schedule is. Please note that I reserve the right to reject any commission request. It may be because I happen to be completely booked at the time, or because I have no interest in the project. Even though I have experience creating wide variety of work, I have learned over the years that the more interest I have in what I'm working on, the better the result will be.

Please be aware that I work in a specific genre and style. The look of my work varies slightly depending on the medium, but the general mood and style is uniform. I am usually pretty easy to work with, but I can't do the impossible, or something that goes against my artistic integrity. Please peruse the galleries on this site thoroughly and be sure my style suits your needs before contacting me about a commission.

Your first step in commissioning a piece of art from me is to e-mail me for availability and estimate. You are welcome to check out the list of basic prices to have a general idea of how much your commission is likely to cost. A project can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to complete. The timeframe usually depends on what size and medium the work is in, how complex it is, and how many other projects I'm working on at the time. Please be aware of this when you commission me; due to busy schedule I cannot work for deadlines. I complete all projects of the first-come, first-served basis. Many times a project requires revisions, which means the next one in line has to be pushed back indefinitely.

Please be sure to know exactly what you want commissioned. It's extremely important to me to do a good job for each and every client, but please realize that I cannot read your mind. People have come to me asking me to "just draw whatever comes to your mind, and I'll see if I like it" (yes... seriously). You must have at least a basic idea of what you're looking for. I will work closely with you to bring your vision to life the best I can. I am usually flexible and willing to do revisions, and will send you regular updates on your commission in the form of sketches and work-in-progress jpeg files. However, once you approve the final sketch, I cannot rework your commission. If you order, say, a graphite portrait of a fairy, you'll receive an estimate for a one-figure and no background graphite drawing. If you approve the estimate, then approve the sketch, then wait for me to finish the work, you can't come to me once I complete the drawing and tell me you want me to add a second fairy, some trees, and color. Not only is it technically impossible to do; significant changes like that would constitute a whole new project.

The commission cost does not come with any reproduction rights. If you are interested in buying reproduction rights, or would like me to license a certain image on this website for a product, please contact me.

All prices for commissions are in U.S. Dollars only. If you cannot afford the entire amount right away, you have an option to submit partial payments in the course of a period of time convenient to you. You will receive your commissioned artwork upon delivering your last payment.

I ship all traditional commissioned work via USPS Priority mail with insurance (if you prefer another courier, please notify me ahead of time). The shipping costs vary and depend on your location and the kind of work you're ordering. Please discuss shipping costs with me before the work on your commission begins. Digital work is delivered electronically via e-mail/FTP transfer, or on a CD via first class mail (no extra charge).

All commissioned original art comes unmatted and unframed. However, matting is available for smaller size pieces for an additional $3 a piece.

I reserve the right to make prints of the finished piece, and to display it on my website and other select online galleries. If you do not want this done, please let me know beforehand. If you do not mind your commission to be made into prints, you will be entitled to receive a matted 8x10" print free of charge.

Below is a rough price chart for original and digital art. Please note that these are starting prices that do not include shipping or matting. The final price of your commission will depend on various factors, such as size, medium, and level of detail. For example, a portrait of a single person against a marble wall will cost much less than a painting of three people in an elaborately furnished room, even if both are in the same size and medium.
